Polyxena Tomaras (Beta)
« on: June 20, 2021, 08:52:53 pm »

Fall in love in the world of a video game
From above with a girl in the anime scene
Can you hear the whole world calling my name
I wanna live in the world of a video game.

Name: Polyxena Tomaras.

Alias: Avatar (Hero Name).

Date of Birth: December, 27, 1997

Age: 23.

Primary Gender: Female.

Secondary Gender: Beta.

Character's Scent: Almonds and Kiwi.

Sexuality: Bi.

Race: Greek.

Species: Superhuman.

Hobbies:
- Amature voice acting
- Blogging about geek culture and video games
- Crafting cosplay and props
- LARP and tabletop RPGs
- Making candy
- Playing Video Games

Powers/Abilities: Polyxena maintains a super power that has been given the label of Avatar. Thanks to Avatar she is able to physically transform her body into a real life recreation of characters from video games. Once transformed she gains the physical traits, abilities, and typical gear of the character she has transformed into. These transformations requires conscious thought to activate but will not deactivate upon being rendered unconsciousness. While there is no limit to the types of characters that Polyxena can transform into she is governed by a set of guidelines.
Rule One: Polyxena can only transform into characters from a video game that she has played in ritual. For the characters of the game to be accessible Polyxena must have actively played the game for a minimum of one hour solid.
Rule Two: She can only catalogue the three most recent games she has played in ritual. These are what she terms as 'save slots'. Should she play a 4th game she must mentally dismiss one of the three prior games.
Rule Three: She does not have to transform into the main character of a series but once a character from a game has been selected, that save slot is in essence 'emptied' and she will be unable to change into any other characters from that game until it is replayed in ritual.
Rule Four: She can only access the most recent game she has played with 'freedom', for the other two save slots she must have a catalyst to the character she wishes to embody. This can be a replica of clothing or gear to act as a catalyst. After the transformation the catalyst is not required to maintain the transformation.
Rule Five: The personality of the character she transforms into will begin to influence her own personality over time. The longer the transformation is maintained the more the personality can encroach on her. This has usually only proven to be problematic in the case of extremely long duration transformations or characters with very strong personalities.

Personality: Polyxena is a little complex when it comes to her personality. She can be personable and charming but honestly is much more introverted than most would expect if they saw her out on patrol or talked to her online. When the hero mask is on or when she is safe behind a computer screen she can be approachable but in truth she is a very meek woman who would rather not have the spotlight shining on her.

She keeps only a small circle of close friends and is mostly a creature of habit. It doesn't mean that she isn't open to the idea of trying new things but someone else would be the one who has to drag her out to do it. She's grounded and practical, supporting her ambition by being willing to put in the hard work to better herself as both a pro hero or when it comes to increasing her skill at playing games. The rather high standards that she can set for herself can sometimes make her get to be a bit of a workaholic, sometimes needing to be forced to get rest or take a break for her own physical and mental health.

Due to her parents influence as much as her career choice she is attentive to others. She'll do whatever she can to help them achieve the best version of themselves that they can be. This causes her to be a bit of a mother hen to some of her friends or the supportive bigger sister role should she feel that they need that type of encouragement in their life. Even though her perky disposition is often the drive behind her trying to encourage others to see and be the best versions of themselves they can, she has trouble taking her own advice. She's hard on herself and can get into a pessimistic loop if she doesn't do well at something or gets bogged down by looking at the current situation rather than looking ahead. Often due to the high standards she has coupled with her low sense of self worth she will often need to have her normally good advice quoted back to her for her to have any hope of taking it.

Occupation: Pro Hero at Flare-Hero agency in Japan.

School: N.A.

Place of Living: Living in Apartment N2 at Red Fountain Apartments.

Original or Canon: Original.

Face Claim: Moriko Morioka from Recovery of an MMO Junkie.

Appearance:

History: Polyxena wasn't native to Japan but was born in the city of Rhodes in Greece. Her father Evander was a member of the Hellenic Armed Forces while her mother Voleta often entertained guests at home. Polyxena didn't have a bad childhood but she did have a bit of trouble when it came to making friends. Because of her father's military career it often meant moving from one city to another, making it hard for Polyxena to make lasting friends. While her mother wasn't neglectful she often just tried to encourage Polyxena by telling her to put on a smile and be charming to those she met. This resulted in Polyxena developing a bit of a splintered personality. When meeting people she was always trying to put her best foot forward but admittedly she still felt uncomfortable in the company of strangers.

As time passed the family was frequently moved around Greece before Evander retired. For a brief glimmer it seemed that life would finally settle down for Polyxena but once again her fathers career made a grandiose adjustment as he was hired by a private defense company that now caused his family to move out of Greece and into Japan.

Being in the Japanese school system proved difficult for Polyxena as it took her time to learn the language, the other kids who grew up and knew one another already had established their cliques and connections that Polyxena just sort of hovered around. She wasn't disliked but nor did anyone really try to make a bond with her.

With work keeping her father out late at night for sometimes days at a time Voleta took to starting to have an affair with another man. While Polyxena hated the idea of what was going on, she opted to not confront her mother about it and began to sink herself more into her hobbies as a method of escapism. The thing she loved the most? Video games. Oh how much she delighted in getting to see the worlds and strengths of the protagonists. For Polyxena it was amazing to get to temporarily be the popular girl, the powerful hero, the daring pilot. So often she would get home from school and as soon as she finished the minimum of work she would dive into playing games. Single player or MMO it didn't matter.

After a while Polyxena became aware of the world of geek culture. Anime and gaming conventions where fans of all ages and ethnicity and backgrounds could meet together to appreciate games and cartoons. Polyxena was nervous to go but she was won over by her excitement. Working hard she managed to put together a cosplay for her first convention. The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds had been released and she was excited to try and cosplay as Princess Zelda. Working on drafting the pattern and making the dress it was when she put it on for a test fitting that a strange thing occurred. Her hair changed color, her body grew taller, ears getting longer and Polyxena soon found herself transformed into the Princess of Hyrule.

Needless to say this caused quite a bit of a panic as she ran to her mother to figure out what was going on. Her mother just sighed and told her to calm down before calling her father on the phone. It was time that the family had a bit of a sit down and chat. Evander even took time out of work to come home to speak with them in person. He explained that while he did work for defenses contractors that he himself was not a normal human. He possessed some limited shape shifting abilities. Limiting himself to being able to change his appearance to that of other humans. While it seemed that Polyxena had inherited a similar gift hers was different in that it also could manifest other things as well. The princesses gloves, shoes, and jewelry had not been a part of what she put on when the transformation occurred.

Polyxena was still reeling at the shock of the revelation it was then that another argument took place. Evander warned Polyxena that she should keep her gift a secret. The girl was in part disheartened by such a notion. Not that she liked to be the center of attention but there was something neat to having such a power. Her mother argued that the world was filling with superhuman or supernatural people and that why shouldn't Polyxena be allowed to show off her talent? Evander insisted that if her power was discovered someone might try to use her for nefarious purposes. Voleta argued that their daughter should be in the spotlight and that she was tired of having a shrinking wallflower for a daughter.

The harsh words, criticism, and the idea her parents were trying to decide for Polyxenas what she would do without any consideration to her own wants finally was too much for the poor girl. She screamed at them about how she was tired of secrets. That her mother was one to talk about being open when she'd been having her extra marital affair. She chided her father for never being home, that what would he even know about her since he kept his powers and career a secret. She went to her room and stayed inside crying.

It took some time but her parents did settle down and after having their own arguments came to their daughter and apologized. Despite everything they had done to one another and to her they did love her and wanted for her to be happy. There would be a lot they would have to work on but they would try and be better at communicating with her and accepting she was about to be a woman who would be making her own decisions. Her father relented about her never using her power but he did ask that she be mindful and only use it in secret. When she officially moved out then she could use her power as she saw fit and encouraged that the budding Hero worship might be up her ally as his defense firm helped handle a few Hero agencies. Much to her mothers chagrin who began to insist her daughter wouldn't be acting as a hero... Until Polyxena told them that she hadn't made such a decision yet and that for right now all she wanted to do was focus on getting through school and getting back to her games.

In Time Polyxena began to grow her aptitude for using her power. She started to learn how to better control it as well as the cardinal rules that governed her transformations. She also learned that she gained the actual superhuman properties of the people she turned into which was exciting. But the one thing she was eager to use it for? Her cosplay. The day of the convention arrived and Polyxena happily used her newfound transformation ability to once again become Princess Zelda. At the convention she received a remarkable amount of attention due to her uncanny resemblance to the character. She found herself moving and behaving with manners similar to that of the princess even easier.

But being transformed for three days did begin to reveal something about her power. Steadily she would have intrusive thoughts. Thoughts of home, but it wasn't her home with her parents, or even the city of Rhodes where she was raised. It was thoughts of an old and ancient castle. It was of an ever pressing need to take care of her people. After the convention Polyxena returned back to normal but for a short while those thoughts and infused memories lingered. They went away with time but it seemed that there was a danger to being transformed for too long.

The convention a success and with her new powers -sort of- in check, Polyxena felt a little more confident in herself. The attention while not always  the best, had certainly gotten her to feel a bit better about talking to others. Meeting fellow fans of games where they could talk about their favorite scenes and characters had also been a delight. While still not hugely social she was more willing to attend other gaming and cosplay related events. She began to apply herself more in her schooling, proving to have a sufficient skill with taking care of small details. Although she made mistakes she did her best to learn from them rather than suffer the same lesson twice.

Admittedly becoming an adult was an unusual transition for her. She wanted to be out from under her parents but she also knew that she'd need a job to be able to afford rent. Trouble was that getting a job meant having to be around people she might not feel super comfortable with. She also would be having to give up some of her game time to take jobs. Her father approached her and again offered the idea of her taking a job as a Hero for his agency. Polyxena did consider being a hero might not be such a bad career choice but instead of working for the Agency connected to her father she opted to join the newly founded Flare Hero Agency. Her father was a bit offended but she told him that she just couldn't feel like he was still looking over her and she needed to become a woman on her own, separate from her mother and father.

It would be after moving out that Polyxena would attend another convention where she would meet the newest prominent figure in her life. While she was attending she had decided to cosplay as she normally did. This time it was as Byleth from the new Fire Emblem game. Gabriella being a fan immediately set upon talking to Polyxena. As is often the case of introvert and extrovert friendships, Gabriella adopted Polyxena into her group and the two enjoyed hanging out at the convention together.

In the wake of the end of the weekend the two became fast friends and would grow to spend a great deal more time together hanging out either online or in person. Gabriella helped to encourage Polyxena to be a little more adventurous and would take her out places socially while Polyxena helped Gabriella to be a little more grounded from time to time. As their friendship grew so did a budding romance with Gabriella eventually confessing her feelings and Polyxena admitting she felt them in return. The two became a couple and shortly after got an apartment together at Red Fountain.
