Fiasco of the Century (Vera)
« on: October 27, 2021, 05:57:35 pm »
Hitoshi was capable of things outside the Dojo. If he wasn't wearing an apron, he'd be covered all over by flour. He's been baking a cake for the sole purpose of a small party somewhere in the Eastern District, he wasn't late but he did keep on top of it so it was prepared to the best of his ability. The payoff of someone enjoying the food he makes was always worth the work he put into it. Once he finished mixing the butter and sugar, the man took a carton of eggs from his fridge, Cracking and adding them one at a time, taking extra care to avoid mixing in the eggshells in the yolk. Whisking the ingredients in between, Hitoshi made sure none of the batter mix was too rough or liquidated with his whisk. Baking to him was the cooking equivalent to practicing Hapkido, it took time, a lot of spins, and needed precision for such a simple task. Once the batter looked ready, Hitoshi poured the batter into three separate pans before placing each in the oven.

The man sighed as the first 8 steps were accomplished, gripping his currently disposable gloves and tossing them before reaching into his fridge for water. He opened the bottle and practically chugged the bottle before tossing the thing into a recycle can. The man took off the first apron, dusting it off before tossing it in his clothing hamper. Fetching a cleaner one for his next steps. Taking out his phone, he signed in to see what new content 'Princess Yoshi' has posted since last he checked. Finding a rather bouncy video, Hitoshi watched as he waited for the oven to finish backing. It was a nice break, something to help destress him before the harder part. The oven went off, prompting Hitoshi to take oven mitts to remove the pans out of the oven, allowing the cake layers to cool as he checked how baked they were with a toothpick, it was good results, not perfect but it made him happy how this was turning out. Setting them to cool, he resumed being on his phone to watch another video of Yoshi's. Hitoshi yawned, waiting was easily one of the hardest parts of backing. Though he had a sea of videos to watch as he waited.

An hour passed before he went back to close his phone's applications and set it to rest. Taking out pastry brushes, new gloves, and the clean apron, the man proceeded to assemble the cake. Each layer had a different frosting separation layer, velvet, strawberry, and vanilla on top. Following the same frosting system, Hitoshi smoother out each layer to avoid intermingling the types. Applying a deep red velvet frosting in the shape of roses before using pink strawberry on the middle and white vanilla on top. Like the base, he decorated each layer as the above, placing whip cream and red syrup on top before putting it in the fridge to cool even further. Moving this to the Eastern District is gonna be tough... I'm going to nap on it. With the final steps completed, Hitoshi did exactly what he thought.

Another hour of daylight eaten, an idea formed during his slumber. The man dressed casually to go outside, setting up a makeshift, easy to open box out of old boxed mail packages? Was it foolproof? No, would it get the job done? Hopefully. Placing the cake in, Hitoshi put on the weak attempt at a cover before leaving his apartment, locking the door. Hitoshi walked over to the elevator before pressing the down call button. Patiently, he waited for the trip down. When the machine arrived, he tried to hurriedly squeeze his way in before the doors fully opened. He hoped to get in quick enough to stop the doors and go to ground level in an expedited fashion, he forgot the elevator alignment wasn't perfect, tripping his foot on the small bump present, launching the pastry dish full force into the elevator. Shit.

Vera had not much planned today but she knew she could go out and drink to settle nerves. Some clients were annoyingly picky with her. But typically they paid well so it was worth it. She decided to wear her more simple black dress and dark blue coat. Feeling like this would do. She left her apartment and got into the elevator. Pulling out her headphones to help zone out as she waited to get to the bottom. This continued until the elevator stopped. Bearly hearing some guy say 'Sh*t' her attention snapped back into focus. By the time she noticed anything it was too late and the cake the guy made launched at and collided with her dress. As she felt that, then looked down at her dress and gave a long deep sigh. Muttering under her breath "F*ck." Gripping her nose as she did. While closing her eyes until they opened again. After that she turned off her music and took off her headphones and placed them in her purse.

Then Vera decided to look around to get a better read on the situation. Then she looked at the man who just tripped. "You know you should watch where you're going, especially if you're carrying something.." She would say in a very blunt matter of fact tone. But definitely didn't sound like she was from here. Then Vera would wait to see what the man would do. "Do you need help getting back up?" She didn't really offer her hand at that moment. But did decide to look down at him. Her expression did soften a bit as she asked this though.

Hitoshi never felt as much embarrassment as he did now. Seeing the feet of the individual in direct line of the tossed cake, the man instantly changed a tune of disappointment in himself to pure fear and embarrassment. Dropping the cake was bad, onto someone was even worse, Hitoshi didn't even know where to begin. Should he be scared? Apologetic? Run back and start baking a new one? He wasn't quite sure what he was supposed to do, all he was sure of was he fucked up and he didn't know how he could recover from this. He looked up to the woman who addressed him, clearly annoyed and exasperated. The man pulled his feet in to avoid the doors closing and was simply on his hands and knees. "Yeah, I really should, I was in a hurry but that, that was just dumb and inexcusable." I should just order pizza to that event cause this will be a bitch and a half to explain.

"No. I don't need help... maybe I do cognitively but that's a different story. No, I just deserve to stay down for a bit." Hitoshi sighed in clear defeat as he tried to think of some way to amend his mistake. "Please, Miss, I fucked up really, really bad. Please let me make it up to you. Anything you need or want for a week, please, just let me do it, I will do anything and everything to make this up to you, please!" Hitoshi bowed deeper to the floor, practically bowing greatly at her feet. He didn't really know who the woman was and he didn't care, he knew what he did was extremely wrong, foolish, haphazardous. It was no excuse, no justification was really there to atone for his sins.

The man would remain there, wondering how much clothing he had to wash, how much shopping he had to do, how much expenses he had to make this right. I am never going to financially recover from this. The man would think before finally standing back up, a look of concern clearly across his face as he realized the woman lived in this same complex. He's seen her in passing but never formally introduced himself. Oh... oh shit.

Vera was honestly just relieved that this wasn't one her favorite pieces of clothing honestly. But she looked at him,her head slightly tilted. Then focused more as he actually responded. "Yeah." Her posture relaxed a bit after his response. "I don't need to know about your mental problems. We aren't friends." Choosing not to comfort him because honestly this was a problem he caused. But instead she put her hand to her hip as he made his proposal. Only thinking he must be desperate or an idiot for such an open ended contract.

"Ok well then these will be my terms. Hm, I can wash this so no big deal. So just make me a dessert with blood orange and raspberries. Preferably cheese cake or brownies. And some wine to go with it." But her eyebrow raised as he bowed lower to her. Definitely a strange fellow at least in her eyes. She didn't see herself as a person in the position to be bowed to. That said she wouldn't stop him though.

But it did smell like a great cake and she honestly wanted some sweets. Licking one of her fangs as she began to get bored of this conversation. But then Vera quickly stopped realizing this wasn't the best thing to do right now. And focused back on him. "Do you agree to my terms? And really should get up." Her posture relaxed a bit more as she said that. Her tone generally still very matter a fact but a little more relaxed.

Hitoshi looked at the woman and rubbed the back of his head; if it was clear he was nervous, the gesture alone took the cake. Admittedly, Hitoshi didn't know the exact depths nor the gravity of the situation he was in. All he knew was he fucked up and he had the atone for it. While he would absolutely love for this to be covered by a band-aid, the truth is it was going to be harder than he would like. He was used to this and had this be any other circumstance, he's pretty sure he would not be able to squeeze out of this alive. Or at the least, in one piece. People weren't always people per see around here. Everyone seemed to be gifted at something, even the supernatural. Hitoshi on the other hand, well, he was able to at least bake for the people whose ass he kicked.

Hearing the woman's request really made him like he got off with a slap on the wrist, luckily, he'd prefer a slap over any other cause of pain. "I see no reason this isn't disagreeable. I'll just need to do some shopping to make it... you're kinda wearing the last of the flour I use..." He let out a small nervous chuckle as he looked at her eyes. The man had a certain aspect, he didn't like breaking eye contact. Doing so was kind of like submission in his eyes and he was pretty tired of being treated worse than human. He could only put up with so much shit himself so the fact that Ms. Angioli was giving him a sort of chance at redemption. It was a pure godsend.

Hitoshi got to thinking what best he would do to pull off this request. Already, he was at a loss how he was going to justify these charges to his wallet. It wasn't a cheap thing, it was cheaper in the long run but still, it stung he needed to reload now instead of later. Hitoshi nodded, "I can definitely get started on this, when do you want the pastries made, and where do you want me to deliver it to? That's if uh, you don't want me in your room. Having all these planned, including the ingredients and needed expenses planned early on will definitely help make all of this come together better than... well, this fiasco." The Sumeragi stated, looking at her dress. Hitoshi raised a finger, "Uh, do you need tips or advice washing that off, Ms.?"

Vera watched the man nervously scratching his head but all she cared about was that she got what she wanted. Feeling what she asked was more than reasonable for him to accept. And happily speaking she did have a change of clothes back in her room. So she felt her plans weren't completely ruined today. Which if this was her last pair of clothes she honestly probably wouldn't be as reasonable towards him.

She would nod her head as agreed to what she said. "Alright, good. Then get some more flour?" Her eyes weren't as harsh as the beginning of their encounter but she still didn't look sympathetic to what he said. But did notice the man was keeping eye contact with her not breaking it. She personally respected that given a lot of people growing up were too afraid of her to even look her in the eye. People treating her like she wasn't the spawn of satan was one of the many things she enjoyed about this place.

She really didn't care how much this would cost him in all honesty but did hope it would at least taste good. That said she did admittedly have expensive tastes. But did think he could do it since the cake smelled good. And simply hoped he would pick out some good wine. "Hm how about you bring it to me mid next week? If you come up with a snag that would make it take longer just call this number."

She would hand him her business card which showed she is a professional photographer ;but it only had her business contacts and not her personal. But on it would show that her name is Vera Angioli. "And as far as where to drop them off, call me the day you feel they'll be ready. We'll figure it out then. And may call me Ms. Angioli. By the way though, what's your name?" Then she noticed him raising his finger so paid a bit more attention to him. "Hm not really but you can still tell me. Doesn't hurt to learn. But you should probably clean this elevator or call a janitor."
