Eyes of a tiger

The Kusanagi Dojo was a dojo that was of surprisingly rare caliber.

A fairly large building, on the surface it appeared to be similar to a traditionally built dojo. Spacious with a large main room for pratice and plenty of tertiary rooms for the various functions one would need for it. It almost seemed like it had been perfectly cut out of a more traditional time period were it not for the more modern amenities that were installed throughout the building.

What was less obvious was the basement area. That was Kenji's Fujiwara's private residence. It was a much more modern and luxurious area. much like a several-room private condo fit for wealth. A strange and mysterious juxtaposition to the austere dojo that sat atop it, this living area was a mysterious place very few people than Kenji had set foot in, much less even know about.

On this afternoon the instructor found himself sitting in the main room of the dojo, dressed in simple white gi with a black belt. Currently he was meditating and exercising the flow of energy throughout his body. It was a very still but surprisingly effective form of mental and physical exercise in spite of its stagnant nature.

It was about an hour after he began his usual morning routine that he heard it (or perhaps more accurately, felt it): someone approaching the fully open door to the dojo. It was hard to describe the sensations that he used to detect someone, as it was an amalagam of his various senses at work that helped Kenji paint a mental picture of the world around him even if his eyes were closed.

"You don't need to knock: the door is open. You can come right in." Kenji offered to whoever it was. At that moment he would demonstrate his uncanny skill and ability: from his sitting meditative stance, Fujiwara's legs made an ever so small movement, almost like a twitch. this small movement generated enough force to send the martial artist straight up off the ground, as if while sitting he suddenly shot up a good six or seven feet. At the apex of this, Kenji's legs quickly unfolded as his feet quickly shot to the ground without a sound, leaving him standing quietly. If nothing else it was an impressive feat of agility.

At that point Fujiwara turned around to face his guest.

"I'm Kenji Fujiwara, head instructor of this dojo and owner of this estate. What brings you here?"

It was so hot out it made being outside so unbearable. Bridget pushed through this hot breath weather because his grandfather had suggested a new instructor for the young man to train under with his abilities. That was all the man said to him before giving him the address and telling him what time to arrive. He had no reason to object to the suggestion since to him it feels like he's still unable to control his powers without the limiter bracelets on. It was always why he kept his emotions in check and avoided confrontations with people. Sure, the friends he was trained under originally did okay but it just didn't feel like enough.

The control felt temporary, not handled. So, Bridget didn't mind training under someone new if they could help him. They didn't need to be someone specifically with powers but someone that could help him fully master the ability he had and not put a bandaid over it. Luckily for him, he didn't have to work today so he could focus on this. His grandfather usually had a hand in giving him leeway when he needed a day off. He never asked for it, he would do it if there was something specific he wanted his grandson to do outside of work. Normally if he wasn't training on days he didn't work, he would be home either playing video games or reading. Something to pass the time so he wouldn't feel bored. He always tried to keep his mind occupied on other things to keep from feeling anxious a lot.

However, he was anxious today. That wasn't anything new when it came to his power so he just kept his breathing as normal as possible to remain calm. He still feared hurting people that didn't know about them and they in turn feared him. He wanted to put an end to that cycle, thus him going to this dojo and meeting the instructor there. His grandfather also sent him a text for him to show to the instructor once he got there. Bridget wasn't sure why he needed to do that but he figured that doing so would show whoever it was that he wasn't lying about why he would be there today.

It took almost two hours to find the place he was instructed to go to but he did and it was a rather large and traditional looking dojo. There were a lot of them around Japan that are still around but many had modern renovations added to them. Bridget could see that very modernized detail as he ventured further onto the property. Walking along, he did find a door that he assumed was an entrance and was going to knock when he suddenly heard a voice on the other side telling him to enter. That gave him an unsettling feeling since he wasn't expecting it but he believed and hoped it was the instructor and so he did as he was told and pushed the sliding door to the building open.

He thought it was rude to enter without knocking but he'd been told to and prayed he didn't offend the rather large burly man his eyes came upon. He also didn't see anyone else here with him so that was an indication that he'd been alone before the blonde arrived. He had also introduced himself to him as Fujiwara Kenji. Remembering customs, Bridget immediately bowed respectfully before speaking, standing up straight and clearing his throat. "I am here on behalf of my grandfather Abe Yuuji. I was told to come here and train. Oh and show you this message from him as well," Bridget told him as he removed his phone from the pocket of his pants to pull up the text which he then showed to Kenji.

"I am his granson, Pendragon Bridget."

As Kenji turned to face his guest, he was already unconsciously getting a read on the boy. Interesting. He was young, probably no more than in his late teens at most but he had a faint force of presence about him. A presence indicating that no only did he have some kind of power that was not ordinary, but that he also had experienced some form of either training or combat.

Such an aura of power was uncommon, even in gifted individuals. Yakuza spent years of their life (with or without abilities) training just to attain some form of this instinctual presence or "aura" of strength. Most only were able to ever attain a poor imitation of it that was just an empty shell not unlike that of a balloon filled with air. This boy however was the real deal. His presence had both shape and substance (if it was possible to give something so ethereal such terms).

When the boy mentioned he had come here to train, Kenji nodded sagely. When he mentioned that he had been sent by Abe Yuuji, Kenji's eyes widened for a moment in slight surprise before he smirked.

"That guy would be the one to pull something like this." the martial artist stated with a smirk as he read the text. "Aside from the fact that I owe him, I'd consider doing this just because of how hilariously gutsy the guy is."

Kenji handed the phone back to Briget.

"Before we get started I need to ask you something. How many fights have you been in? Not sparring, matches or anything like that. Do you understand the difference?" Kenji inquired in a calm yet authoritative tone.

Bridget wasn't surprised the name knew his grandfather personally. He didn't know anyone that wasn't familiar with him. At least he didn't have to further explain his relation to the man so that was a plus. Though he was curious as to what his grandfather had done for this man the reason he owed him, however, that was a question for another day. He took his phone back once it'd been handed to him, sliding it back into his pants pocket. He was thrown off by the question of how many fights he'd been in that weren't sparring-related. This had made Bridget flinch and he uncomfortably began rubbing his arm up and down while shifting his gaze away from the large man.

"I don't ... I've always avoided fighting other people. I don't like confrontation," Bridget admitted. It was clear that Kenji knew nothing about him ahead of time so he knew nothing of the blonde's powers and how he's struggled to keep them under control to avoid hurting people. He didn't want to talk about it. It was an uncomfortable subject for him so unless he was ordered to tell him everything, then he wouldn't. He would only tell him what he felt was important for him to know. Those he's trained under were accepting of this but he couldn't assume this man would be. Every instructor was different after all.

"I see." Kenji responded calmly.

The martial artist paused for a moment.

"That's a valid reason. Some are legitimately gentle and calm souls who do not like conflict. That being said whether you know it or not you aren't one of those people. You may avoid conflict but its very clear to me that conflict is a part of you whether you like it or not." Fujiwara continued, crossing his arms in an almost sagely manner.

"If I were to take a guess, I'd say you've actually experienced far more conflict than your telling me. Perhaps more accurately, you've experienced more conflict than you are consciously aware of. Perhaps its not conflict in the traditional physical sense, but the philosophical one. The primary difference being that your opponent isn't someone else. Its you."

Kenji quietly made his way over to a bottle of water sitting at the edge of the room, pausing to take a drink before he continued.

"Of course, you could argue that all of that is just a hypothesis with no bearing in reality. That being said I am drawn to one curious thing that tells me there is at least one shard of truth to my reading of you. That shard being those bracelets your wearing. To me, They don't seem streamlined enough to be a tool, or personalized enough to be attire. To me they almost seem more like restraints than anything else. Restraints are used for two purposes: a method for others to keep one in check...Or in much rarer cases they are a method for one to keep themselves in check."

Kenji returned to his previous position standing in front of Bridget.

"You haven't even looked me in the eyes since you walked through that door. That tells me that your intimidated, but it also tells me your focus is elsewhere. Worried about that power I assume those bracelets are meant to contain. Am I close to being correct?"

Bridget wasn't surprised by the man's assessment of him. He didn't like it but he knew he wasn't wrong either. There was so much conflict he was dealing with but not the same kind as those normally in his situation would experience. It hit closer to home when Kenji guessed spot on that the young man was his own worst enemy and it just made him sink a little further inside. He was starting to see why his grandfather recommended that he train under his man but even if he could accurately assess so much about him, he couldn't help but wonder if the training regimen he'd go through would make a difference. But the moment the bracelets he wore were mentioned, Bridget immediately pulled down the sleeves of his jacket to cover them, his gaze now shifted to look down at his feet.

"I'm not intimidated ... I'm worried ... worried about what you'll ask of me to do during training," Bridget replied, releasing a shaky and uncomfortable sigh. "Yes, the bracelets are to keep my power in check because ... I've hurt too many people accidentally with them. I'm grateful for the help I've been given to get this far but I feel as if it's not enough. You're not wrong about me. I am fighting with myself, with my powers, but if you're able to help in some way, you will not hear me complain about training. Grandfather himself can be pretty brutal so I'm used to harsh and strenuous training but I would prefer it if it helps so I don't have to rely on the bracelets," he said, finally raising his head and his eyes are on Kenji now.
