"I am the ultimate defense! Come at me, bro!" Name: Kaede Honjou
Alias: Kae-chan (for short), Honjou-san, Maple The Living Fortress (in-game name)
Date of Birth: February 13th, 2009
Age: 15
Primary Gender: Female
Secondary Gender: Beta
Character's Scent: Citrus & Fresh Cut Grass
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Race: Japanese
Species: Human
Hobbies: Video Games (online & console), Good w/computers (hacking & game modding), Reading (Manga), Watching Anime
Powers/Abilities: Kaede doesn't have any powers she was born with. The abilities listed here will be related to the ones she has in-game when playing "New World Online" or "NWO" for short. Her in-game character name is "Maple".
Body Armor - Maple's body armor consists of forearm, leg, and foot plating along with her overall outfit itself, which looks like an armored short dress, but the durability of everything she wears is maxed out. She is meant to be a human shield for her guild members, as her offensive abilities are weak. The armor is also modded to be durable, provide protection against attacks, and is lightweight. The armor also enhances her strength. It is nothing special, and Kaede modded Maple this way to test the controls. Her weak spots are her thighs and shoulder area.
Defense Shield - Maple's main item is her large and wide black shield on her back. When she has this item out, taking her out of the game is rather hard because the defense has been modded to be maxed out like her armor. It makes it difficult for other players to take her out because she is often the main one targeted because she appears weak. If another player is able to take away her armor, Maple is vulnerable to attacks in her weakest areas if one has good aim. She'll spend most of her time running away instead of fighting.
Baton/Sword - A small black but thick baton that Maple can use but chooses not to because she prefers to defend rather than fight. However, if she
has to fight, she can tap the right side of it with the palm of her hand to activate it, and the top of it transforms into a large black blade that glows red. This is the only offensive weapon Maple has can use it to attack another player to lower HP by 50% and put a dent in being able to heal by 5%. In other words, if a player had a healing ability or their guild member healed them with their ability, their health bar would only go up by 5%. In other words, the player will run out of health either way because it takes more energy and power to heal the damage. Although this weapon can be used multiple times, Maple can only use it once because she is the defense of her team, not the offense. This leaves her only with one opportunity to use it against a stronger enemy. Kaede didn't mod this item. Unfortunately, it's an item she found in-game that can't be modded due to how it works.
Personality: Kaede is your average innocent teenager who loves to have fun. She finds it fun to play video games because it fills the void in her life, with her parents being constantly busy with work. Video games are her means of escapism and talking to others. She's good at playing console games but better at playing PC games, specifically a game called "New World Online". She is good at using computers, but her skills go further as she learned through trial and error how to create mods for the games she enjoys playing to make it easier for her to enjoy and, at other times, to cure her amusement by trolling other players by making it difficult for them to play against her. This started with finding mods for games and wanting to learn how to create mods, which takes time and practice, making sure it not only works but doesn't glitch and create game errors. It's a skill Kaede desires to expand on because she wants to create her own game in the future. For the time being, her skills mainly deal with testing out what works or trolling others out of amusement.
She is reserved and quiet around those not in the video gaming club. She's friendly and respectful toward others but internally struggles to make friends with them because she has to pretend to be "normal" around them. Even by those who think lowly of her constantly remind her she is nothing more than a Beta, Kaede remains silent. This shows that she doesn't like conflict because she finds no point in fighting with others. To Kaede, fighting creates more problems, and she refuses to be a part of the problem. But the attitude of many of her Alpha peers and some of her Omega peers proudly flaunting their secondary genders has caused Kaede to dislike how others use it to force others to submit to them. If she is able to, Kaede tries to avoid troublesome people. Her parents feel otherwise about this. Kaede is from a well-off family, yet neither of her parents' families are wealthy. They just worked hard through their own efforts to get to where they are today. But they worry so much about how many view Betas and constantly worry about their daughter's future because of her hobbies. While they don't push her to give them up, they do stress that she has to be "normal" so that others won't look down on her.
Kaede doesn't know what that means. In her mind, she is normal. Personally, she doesn't care that she is a Beta, but she is still young and isn't looking for a mate. Kaede's not uninterested, it's just not a priority for her. She's just enjoying what she enjoys. But she never argues with her parents because she fears doing so will make them worry about her more and have them take away the things she enjoys. Kaede doesn't want that. As such, her relationship with her parents is that of indifference. Outside of gaming, she does enjoy anime and manga, another hobby she shares with the other club members who are also interested in both. Unlike others around her, they don't judge her and often recommend her titles to check out when she can. Only around them does Kaede show a more extroverted and excitable side of herself. This makes her a rather goofy person who can Crack a smile. She's always raring to share something she's modded or discovered in any game she's playing she thinks the others haven't found on their own and shows them what to do. She sees everyone in the club as a friend and a game rival. Kaede also learned some hacking skills. She isn't the greatest hacker, but she can, at most, hack someone's system to lock them out of their game or delete their data. Kaede can't do more than that right now.
Occupation: ----
School: Hakoniwa Academy | Ninth Grade | Video Game Club Member
Place of Living: Kade lives w/parents in a high-rise neighborhood. A large house located in the Minato District.
Original or Canon: Original
Face Claim: Bofuri - Kaede Honjou (in-game appearance) & Virtual YouTuber - Oozora Subaru (actual appearance)
Appearance: Kaede stands at the height of 5'1 with short neck-length black hair and blue eyes. She has a rather stereotypical tomboyish appearance, which makes many confuse her to be a boy. She has fair skin and a C-cup-sized bust. Although feminine in appearance, her features are covered by the clothes she wears. Such as a backward baseball cap, hoodies, and sweaters with shorts that reach her upper thighs. Her tops are often large and baggy, which hides her overall frame. She'll sometimes wear skirts and pants with sneakers. Kaede doesn't think much about her appearance in terms of "appearing pretty". She simply wears clothes that are comfortable for her. When playing the MMORPG game NWO, the character she created looks completely different from her. Her in-game character is 5'3" in height with short black hair that's styled in a bob cut that reaches to her neck and has a short ahoge on top with pale grey colored eyes. She'll sometimes add a white hair clip as an accessory but will remove it. Her character also wears what appears to be a heavy armor suit, equipped with a black thick baton that she can extend into a sword when she needs to fight. Her most notable item is the large shield she wears on her back that she modded and maxed out to be the "Ultimate Shield". Her characters attire is decked out in the colors of black and red and modded to be light-weight despite appearing otherwise.
Maple I,
Kaede I, &
Kaede IIHistory: Born and raised in Tokyo, Japan, Kaede is the only daughter to parents Masaomi Honjou (Beta, Male) and Koko Honjou (Beta, Female). Masaomi works as a Pediatrician at Andros Hospital, and Koko works as a Personal Injury Lawyer, which involves her working with civil litigations representing clients who have sustained an injury. Both of Kaede's parents were from average family homes but had the drive to work hard and prove themselves to those around them. The same values they try to instill in their daughter. They knew that the world is not kind to everyone, and even when someone is doing well for themselves, there are always people out there who judge you for it. As a child, Kaede would not understand this, but she knew her parents were always worried about something and weren't sure how to ask them what was wrong or if she should ask. Her parents cared for her and about her, but they were often busy because of work. Therefore, Kaede had to be placed in the care of babysitters a lot of the time.
The babysitter she had was a college student named Ema Shiramine, and she had a younger sister named Risa, who was the same age as Kaede. She would bring her with her whenever she was scheduled to watch her. Taking care of Risa is what got Ema the job opportunity, and it is how Kaede made her first friends with the Shiramine sisters. Through her friendship with them, Kaede became interested in video games as she grew up. Risa liked playing them but was more into manga and anime. These were things that Kaede's parents had never gotten her. They would buy toys for her to play with and entertain herself, but they were always educational and not fun to her. Her parents stressed that studying and personal care were everything. Masaomi would assist Kaede with homework when she came of age to attend school, while Koko enjoyed buying clothes for Kaede to wear that she thought would look cute.
Kaede felt she looked stupid and openly said so, which surprised her mother. She apologized but admitted to her mother that she didn't like the girly clothes as they weren't comfortable to move around in. Koko didn't get upset and instead allowed her daughter to pick out what she wanted to wear on her own. At age five, she wanted to wear clothing like t-shirts, hoodies, and shorts to run around and play in. Thing she didn't have to worry about how much she messed up compared to what her mother normally buys her. As for her father, she told him she hated studying. Kaede wasn't incapable of doing it, but it wasn't fun. She didn't understand what was the point of it and wanted to do something fun with him. Like Koko, he didn't get upset and made a compromise with her. If she kept her grades up, she could enjoy things she wanted to do. This is how Kaede's interest in her hobbies began to grow. She was still friends with the Shiramine sisters, and throughout elementary and junior high school, she and Risa attended the same schools together.
They were often seen together just enjoying games, manga, and anime. Their peers often found them to be strange and abnormal because they found their hobbies to be childish. Kaede's life changed as she presented as a Beta when she entered junior high. It is also when her friendship with Risa began to dwindle as she presented as an Alpha and began to distance herself away from Kaede. She didn't understand why, but it wasn't hard to notice that Risa seemed less interested in hanging out with her and caring more about her appearance. It was definitely out of character for her. She soon realized that Risa had started hanging out with a group of popular girls who were very pretty but also obnoxious. When she tried to approach Risa to ask her why she was acting the way she was, the girls stepped in to speak on her behalf. They called Kaede an ugly loser with no friends and told her to get lost. Seeing Risa not defend her left Kaede feeling extremely hurt. She was laughed at and left, going through junior high without any friends. Kaede began to drown herself in her studies and her hobbies to forget about Risa.
Her parents became concerned about Kaede's disinterest in wanting to socialize and would often ask her why she wasn't hanging out with Risa anymore. She'd tell them she didn't want to talk about it. They knew something was up but didn't want to push their daughter away. She was studying and keeping her grades up. That was fine with them but they wanted her to make connections with others too. Kaede became closed off and stayed to herself until she reached high school. She's now a student at Hakoniwa Academy. Despite being in high school, she feels alone and out of place when around her classmates, who seem to easily be able to make friends with one another. Discovering that the school had a video game club, Kaede immediately joined it, and it was this club where she found a place to belong where she could be herself again. Nobody judges her or treats her like an outcast. This is because none of the members care about superficial things such as secondary genders and finding a mate. Everyone cared about and played games. Whether they were video games, consoles, or tabletop, here, she was able to let loose, show her excitable and extroverted self, and bond with others over shared interests.
She also was introduced to an MMORPG game by one of the members called New World Online. An online game that allows players to partake in a story-driven fantasy world and create a customizable character to interact with others who play. The game and characters can be modded by experienced players, as many of the club members were. They were also skilled at modding other games that had the capability of it and hacking games as well—all of which interest Kaede. The club was big on the NWO game. It is this game that she wanted to learn to mod the game and use cool additional perks to make it more fun. However, she just ended up making a basic character with the in-game name Maple and modded it to be maxed out in its defense, which made her an asset to the guild she's a part of. Granted, she is a headache for the game's administrators, but overall, as long as she hasn't modded her character with max defense and offense, they don't bother her. Kaede really loves this club. There's no worry of having to impress anyone. Outside of it is a different story, but she wants to change that she doesn't know how. Her parents still worry about her.
They're happy she is participating in a club and interacting with others, but it's only with those who are part of the club and not outside of it. They worry that their daughter's interests are what's making others not want to engage with her. Kaede tells them they have nothing to worry about. She's fine. Kaede wants to figure things out on her own without her parents interfering. She fears she will be unable to be a part of the video game club if they get involved. She doesn't want that. So, she's et the goal to attempt to make friends with others outside the club. Considering others talk about things she has no interest in, she's not pretty, and many do care about secondary gender status, Kaede knows this won't be easy for her. But she's going to try.
