Five More Minutes to Go Time(Open)

Tap... Tap... tap...

Amar's foot jiggled against the floor impatiently as he watched the seconds hand on the wall clock mounted behind the counter slow creep across the flat disc. The hour hand pointed between three and four and the minute hand was caught between four and five, achingly close to 3:30 in the afternoon and, most importantly, painfully close to the time Amar would finally be able to escape his retail job for the day. Around him, the Evergreen was devoid of people and his only company were the rows and rows of shelves that he'd already spent much of the day organizing, dusting, and stocking. Beyond them, he could see out into the Hitoshi Mall and watch the myriad of people drift by, either engrossed with their phones or talking with friends and he longed to be out there with them.

He turned around and propped himself up on his hand's, his elbows resting solidly on the pine wood countertop. Next to him, the dated register sat largely unused, its tape showing only three transactions for the entire seven hour shift that he'd been at the store for. In its own right, the lack of customers was nice but on the other hand, it made for a long day. There was only so much to do to keep himself preoccupied with; he had done the order for next week when he first got here and then spent several hours moving stock from the small backroom out onto the display floor. And after that, had been cleaning and his few customers, mostly regulars.

And now... nothing to do but to wait.

Sigh...

His eyes drifted around the store, the setting familiar to him after having been here six months now. It was a small accommodation within the larger mall and, much like its name suggested, it was evergreen themed. Rustically, many of the shelves had end caps shaped like the silhouettes of pine trees. The paneled walls were painted a dark green and there was a light, pine trim to everything. The signs indicating genre's were ever flat discs of cut trees with the words burned into them. It was really kind of quaint and charming and made Amar think, somewhat, of the shops in Cracker Barrels back in the States. Kind of a hodgepodge of dated but unique decorations.

He sat up more and stretched, his pine tree shaped name tag jingling as he did. He turned back around and looked back at the clock(which was also pine shaped with a round clock face inset in it). Just five more minutes and he would be free. Free... to do what he hadn't decided yet. But free regardless. Anything would be better than sitting around waiting for his day to end.
