Zach chuckled while his body returned to leaning on the railing, his arms folded over each other like he was doing earlier. Thankfully the colored lights of the fireworks and otherwise relative darkness in the area, she may not be able to tell he was a little flushed. His profession took him around the world regularly, and he couldn't see himself leaving a lover behind while he got shot at overseas, or spending months abroad before ever returning to a familiar location, especially if they expected monogamy out of the relationship. His life could be considered both mundane and extremely stressful at the same time. Any time a nutjob could try to attack him, his colleagues, his boss, or just be a terrorist trying to cause havoc in the vicinity of any of the above. The last thing he'd want to do to someone is up and die, leaving them behind without so much as a peep as to what happened to him reaching them because, who would tell them? One day he hoped he'd be able to retire young, be happy to just exist, and settle down. Maybe be that hidden badass guy in those movies that teaches the hero how to kick ass or something, but looks like a house husband or something. But until that happens, he felt it wouldn't be all that fair. Of course he couldn't just tell her off the bat about all of this, but if she was game, she could try to unlock his tragic backstory.
