In all truth Aine did not know if Adira’s way of representing herself was from a lack of knowledge and confidence in the way the Japanese culture worked or if it was the way she wanted to present herself to her peers. Because acting polite and respectful in society had come back naturally to her, as soon as she’d been taught the rules again, she did biasedly assume it most likely had more to do with Adira’s personal preference to conduct herself in such a manner rather than a lack of aptitude.

“Oh, um…,” Aine paused and pressed her lips together, her chest tightening in response to the question. She didn’t like giving information about herself away so readily, as it made her feel… judged. Like Adira would secretly think poorly of her on the foods she mentioned as soon as it didn’t agree to her standards of what foods were good and what weren’t. She had to keep reminding herself that they were either sisters or close in the past — so she needed to force herself to have more trust in her as a person.

“U-Uh, well, what… kinds of food do you like?”

Her sister faltered, looking troubled by her question which caused her to inwardly sigh. It was a bad idea, and she was about to retract it until Aine spoke up. Answering a question with a question was a pet peeve of hers, but she let it slide for the sake of sisterhood. Maybe she was just seeing if they had anything in common?

"Things that aren't very Japanese?" She offered back with an awkward laugh, but did delve deeper into her preferred foods. "I don't really care for fish...but I like most fruits or vegetables...I don't like mushrooms either..."

It was impolite to say anything bad about anything, but Adira couldn't live like that, live with no individuality or opinion. Luckily, and she'd keep saying this...she was viewed as a foreigner and so that allowed her to get away with more unexceptionable means of acting.

But...that didn't fix the blaring difference between her and Aine which just made them feel even further apart...

"It's fine though, never mind about the bento," she was quick to dismiss the whole stupid idea and was actually finally getting up to take her leave. She had dealt with enough strained conversations between them by this point.

Aine felt a swell of relief when the first thing Adira mentioned was foods that weren’t Japanese. The statement caused her to smile and find amusement in it. Although her expression became neutral once more as she listened to her more defined preferences. Hearing her suggestions did help to make her feel better and she opened her mouth with the intention to speak out, and give a little of her own preferences, but was soon shocked when Adira changed her mind on everything.

“It’s fine though, never mind about the bento.” She was so abrupt to dismiss it, and their conversation, and even stood up from where they were seated and eating lunch.

Aine leaned back against her chair, her heart thumping against her chest, although she made a good show of remaining impassive. She was so quick to take things back, and it actually… pissed her off. It made her angry, although she showed no sign of it. She could feel it burning inside her body like some sort of betrayal.

Nothing gained or lost on her sister's face, and that just made her close off more. This was just their future, stupid conversations and ideas towards a future that wasn't even together. "I'm feeling hot so I'm going to get some air," she semi-lied as she slung her book bag over her shoulder signaling that she would not be back until lunch was over.

The classroom was loud around them, kids laughing and fooling around, but they all seemed in their own world, their own place where they each belonged. But Aine and her were just trying to force something that wasn't working.

There were always things she wanted to say to her sister...like maybe they should just stop, and make other friends because clearly they weren't making any progress together. As much as Adira hated to admit it...Aine was just an open wound to her, one that kept being aggravated whenever they came together.

When or if her sister agreed, she'd give a light bow of dismissal before exiting the classroom all together.
